AHERA NabholzNabholz  is committed to helping Arkansas schools meet their AHERA responsibilities. Public school districts and non-profit schools, including charter schools and schools affiliated with religious institutions, must comply with the federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). AHERA sets forth a set of standards that must be met to identify, inspect, and properly manage materials on campuses that may contain asbestos. The purpose of AHERA is to prevent exposure to asbestos in children while at school.

In general, AHERA regulations require schools to:

  • Perform an inspection of their school for asbestos-containing building material (ACBM)
  • Prepare a management plan and take action to prevent or reduce asbestos hazards
  • Meet additional specifications of re-inspections, training, and operations and maintenance.
  • Comply with the Asbestos National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) if it is necessary to remove any asbestos during renovation or if school buildings will be demolished

Our environmental team is more than ready to assist schools trying to comply with these regulations. From inspecting potential school sites, to checking for asbestos before a remodel, our certified asbestos workers, supervisors, inspectors, and management planners will ensure that everything is done to EPA standards.

We’ve successfully completed a variety of environmental hazard remediation projects—from asbestos and mold removal to organic animal matter clean-up—for schools and universities. We’ve worked for small and large school districts alike and are more than willing to work around your schedule, even if that means working at night. As a matter of fact, when one of our school clients recently needed a new roof but discovered that the old one had asbestos-containing materials, our team worked at night to safely remove the old roof section by section, allowing the roofers to work during the day and keep the project on schedule.

We have assisted many districts and private schools in meeting their AHERA responsibilities by streamlining the process and eliminating the uncertainty of regulatory compliance. As a TIPS/TAPS Vendor and a commercial affiliate of the Arkansas School Boards Association, Nabholz can provide your institution with significant savings.
