Nabholz has proudly served Arkansas Children’s Hospital since 1978, and we were honored when the hospital asked us to construct a new 258,000-square-foot patient tower.
Construction of the state-of-the-art four-story South Wing, attached on three sides to a very active pediatric hospital, included a total of 54 new inpatient beds, expanded cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU), expanded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), new emergency department with, orthopedics suite, decontamination unit, dedicated x-ray suite, and dedicated trauma rooms, new hematology/oncology unit with outdoor healing garden, and new infant-toddler unit.
Also included in this beautiful facility are five new outpatient clinics with a total of 56 new exam rooms and 19 additional procedural/diagnostic rooms for neurology, dental, eye, ENT, and audiology, as well as family waiting areas, a two-story glass-covered atrium, and a rooftop garden with fully-equipped playground and walking labyrinth. Nabholz Civil Service team performed extensive earthwork, storm drainage system, and landscaping and irrigation for the project site. The new tower also has custom interior finishes, including Nabholz-built custom millwork, to create a natural outdoor environment indoors.
During construction, the Nabholz team maintained constant coordination with the pilots of Angel One and Angel Two–the hospital’s emergency transport helicopters–so that the team could quickly move or stop production of the tower crane to keep the path clear during the helicopters’ departures and arrivals.
