Nabholz Construction Services is dedicated to providing a healthy workplace. It’s easy for a company to say those words; however, we show it every day. Here’s how:
Where We’ve Been
In January 2007, we introduced the Nabholz Wellness Program to help the company, employees and their families cope with the rapidly increasing costs of medical care and health insurance. We’ve all benefited from the program with well below average increases in health insurance rates for the last few years.
Our program has made progress in improving the health and lifestyle of our employees and their spouses in the areas of hypertension, diabetes and cholesterol.
Where We Are Now
Our program is results-based with an emphasis on the top five drivers of our health insurance claims – cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, body fat and tobacco use. Employees and spouses covered on the Nabholz insurance plan are screened once a year through formal Nabholz testing or with their own physician. Based on their results, incentive money is given to our covered employees. In 2012 we added “Super Incentives” for tobacco cessation and obesity for both employees and spouses.
If an employee or spouse did not previously qualify for incentives in a specific area or areas, they are encouraged to work on the area or areas and retest later in the year and try to earn more monetary incentives.
Where We Are Going
The structure of our program will continue to evolve to meet the needs of our employees, spouses, and their families. And, always to be compliant with all health care reform policies.
Overweight in the Workplace: How Wellness Programs Can Help the Workforce
In 2012, Nabholz was featured in the HBO documentary series The Weight of the Nation. This shortfilm, part of the documentary series, focuses on the Nabholz Wellness Program. To watch all of the films, go to http://theweightofthenation.hbo.com/
